Andersen Racing's Baker and Krohn
Will Share Front Row for F2000 Season Opener
ALTON, Va., April 19 - Two Andersen Racing drivers will share the front row
for the F2000 Championship Series season opener Saturday at VIRginia
International Raceway.
Jonny Baker put Andersen Racing's Allied Interior Products Van Diemen No. 6
on the pole during qualifying Saturday morning. When the 14-lap/30-minute race
begins at 3:30 this afternoon, Baker will take the green flag beside his
teammate Anders Krohn, who qualified second in the Trallfa Industries, Colosseum
Dental, and Kruse Smith Van Diemen No. 9.
Both are rookies in this series. Baker is from Farnham Common,
Buckinghamshire, England, while Krohn hails from Sandnes, Norway.
Baker's pole-winning time was a 1:55.064 that he recorded on his tenth trip
around the 3.270-mile road course during the 25-minute qualifying session.
Krohn's best lap, his 11th one, was a 1:55.260, which was even faster than the
1:55.831 he ran to top the practice charts on Friday.
The other three Andersen Racing drivers did quite well too. Ricardo Vassmer
(Caracas, Venezuela and Coral Springs, Fla.) qualified eighth for Saturday's
race with a 1:56.455 in the PDVSA, Citgo, Zoom and Meridian No. 2. Doug
Prendeville of Whippany, N.J. will start right behind him, as he qualified tenth in
the Allied Interior Products No. 5 with a 1:56.772. Scott Willard, the Weston,
Conn.-based driver who carries the team's hopes in the Masters class
competition, will start 20th in the 39-car field with his BroadReach Partners No. 14
due to a qualifying time of 1:58.075.
Andersen Racing is Van Diemen's official factory team in this series.
Hoosier supplies its spec tires. The Palmetto, Fla.-based team is sponsored by
Allied Building Products Corp. It is the development team of Rahal Letterman
Racing, which is competing in the IndyCar Series race in Japan today.

Some post-qualifying quotes follow:
Jonny Baker: "We made an improvement from practice with the car, and for
qualifying it was right where we wanted it to be.
"I thought I'd be able to do a low 1:55, and I thought the pole would be
around a 1:55.2. When I saw that 1:55.0 on my dash, I knew I had a shot. But
Anders is quick, and so is Jordan Taylor. There's going to be other guys in the
race who are fast as well.
"There are no points given for qualifying, but we'll keep our head down and
hopefully bring home a good finish for Andersen Racing."
Anders Krohn: "My car was loose; we made a change based on the way the car
and the track were yesterday, but we need to make another change before the race
this afternoon. We are consistent though, so I think we have a good race
set-up. Jonny did a great job; he had the best results in qualifying."
Ricardo Vassmer: "I have a really consistent car for the race. It's
especially good on cold tires. I feel I can be really consistent and that's very
important, especially here."
Doug Prendeville: "I'm very pleased with the qualifying result, and I'm
looking forward to a good race with the Allied Interior Products and Restart
Communications car."
